  1. pete robbins says:

how long can i record a conversation for on the mini?

    • DanNixon says:

Hi Pete, thanks for getting in touch. How much recording time you can get out of your device depends upon how much storage space you have on the device. However, even with only a little space left, 20 minutes of voice recording should easily be possible. Obviously, if you add a microSD card then space increases even more.

      Thanks

      Dan N

  2. What does that little “H” next to the signal strength bars mean? And is there anyway to add additional information to a contact entry such as an address.

    • DanGrose says:

Hi William, thanks for your question.

The “H” you’re referring to stands for HSDPA, which is actually a faster type of 3G connection. When you see this displayed, your internet connection should be even better than usual.

And to add more information to your contacts, simply open up your Contacts, tap the one you want and then tap Settings. From here tap Edit and scroll down, and you should be able to enter extra information.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

      Thanks,

      Dan.

  3. rachel says:

Is there a way to save photos to the phone? As in those that are on facebook or from the internet?

    • DanGrose says:

      Hi rachel,

There sure is; if you find an image you want to save, just tap and hold it and you’ll be able to tap Save to store it in your Gallery.

This works for the Browser, but will depend on the Facebook app you are using, Let us know if you’re having any problems.

      Thanks,

      Dan.

  4. greg says:

To do this, head over to Google Play then tap the Settings button in the bottom left corner of the device. Tap Settings, the tap Auto Update Apps. Here you can select Wi-Fi Only or Not At All.

      Dan.

  5. karen says:

I have just purchased the mini and am new to smart phones. When I was not at home I could not access the internet but have 250mb per month within my contract. I tried with and without the wifi connected .but no internet available ??? What do I need to press/connect

    • DanGrose says:

      Hi karen,

Are you able to call and text people? If not you may need to contact your network provider to get your SIM card activated.

If you are still struggling, make sure you have enough signal, as this will affect your mobile data connection as well as your calls and texts.

      Hope this helps,

      Dan.

  8. Maryke Sondervan says:

How can I make a call via Wifi? ( no mobile network, due to repairs)

    • DanGrose says:

      Hi Maryke,

You can download apps like Skype from the Google Play Store which will allow you to make calls using the internet, but you must ensure the person you are calling has it too.

There is no way to call via Wi-Fi without these type of apps, so we suggest checking them out at the store and seeing which is best.

      Thanks,

      Dan.

  9. sue says:

help I am rubbish with mobiles- and my phone has lost internet access today – took out the battery and replaced it , switched the phone back on and an error message is now showing saying that I need to insert a valid SIM card – its inserted – but phone isnt working – what can I do?

    • DanGrose says:

      Hi sue,

Have you been accessing the internet via a mobile data connection from the SIM card or a WiFi network?

It sounds like there may be a problem with your SIM card, so we suggest removing it, re-inserting it and then turning the phone back on.

If you’re still have trouble, contact your mobile provider and describe the problem to them.

      Thanks,

      Dan.

  13. Ron Lister says:

I do not have any 3G connectivty. Is there a setting somewhere that will enable 3G?
I am on my 2nd S3 Mini with the same problem.
Another problem is my first mini had intuitive typing where it gave me multiple suggestions as i typed and i could tap the word i wanted and it would be inserted. It came out of the box that way . Why doesnt this phone have it?

    • DanGrose says:

      Hi Ron,

Are you using the handset on contract or on pay as you go? It could be that you don’t have mobile data included in your package.

The best thing to do would be to contact your network provider and explain the situation to them, and they should be able to advise on a solution.

As for the keyboard, you can change the type by going to Settings>Keyboard, where you’ll be able to switch between those available.

      Dan.

The battery on my Galaxy S3 Mini is rubbish compared with my previous phone, HTC Wildfire S. I have to charge it every day. Anyone got a solution??????????

    • Cris McNally says:

Hello! I hope these tips can help you: 1. If you are not using WI-FI all the time ,switch it off( if you go out and not using Wi-Fi, for example), screen time out , set it for 30sec, Bluetooth off (if there is no reason to use it , just turn it on when you need it) . It has worked wonders to me.

What was it you wanted to know? If you could fill us in we’d be more than happy to help you out.

To enable Javascript, got to Applications>Google Chrome>Settings>Content Settings then, once you’re in, simply check the box next to Enable Javascript, and you should be ready to go.

As for your emails, could you describe what happens when you attempt to send one? Does it save to the Outbox or just not send at all?

          Thanks,

          Dan.

    Hi

I used to have an HTC Wildfire and miss the desk clock from it (because it had a stop watch, countdown timer, alarm etc included aswell) Do you know if there is an app which will do all of these in one?

    Thanks
    Sarah

    • DanGrose says:

      Hi Sarah,

If you head over to the Google Play Store and search for Clocks, there should be a few there that are similar and may suit you.

It’s likely that the one on your previous handset was an HTC only one, but there should be plenty of alternatives.

      Hope this helps.

how do i up load photos from my samsung mini to my laptop

  19. sarahbelle says:

My phone doesn’t seem to check emails every 5 minutes like I set it to. I have set it to check every 5 minutes peak and off peak. I have tried with wifi on at home and with mobile data activated too and doesn’t seem to update for me every five minutes, is there a setting I have missed?

    • DanGrose says:

      Hi Sarah,

If you have set your emails to sync at this frequency they should be arriving in your inbox automatically.

We suggest setting the frequency to Push, which will deliver them as soon as they arrive, to see if this works.

Let us know how you get on and we’ll be happy to advise.

      Thanks,

      Dan.

      • sarahbelle says:

        Hi Dan

This sounds like what I want, but I don’t seem to have a frequency of push in the settings.

Under Sync schedule the first option is ‘never’ then it has ‘every 5 minutes’ and then goes up to ‘once a day’.

Could you help me again find this setting?

        Thanks
        Sarah

how long does it take to answer a question how do i up load photos from my samsung mini 3 to my laptop

    • DanGrose says:

Hi Charles, apologies for the delay.

To do this just connect your phone to your laptop using the micro USB cable that came in the box. Your laptop should recognise your phone, open up folders and show you the contents.

From here, select DCIM and then copy and paste the images onto your desktop, or a folder on your desktop.

      Hope this helps,

      Dan.

    • DanGrose says:

      Hi Karen,

Unfortunately there is no way to connect your handset directly to your TV on it’s own, sorry about that.

However Samsung does sell an HDMI adapter through its website, which will do the job.

Are you able to browse the internet on your handset? It might be that you are having issues with your mobile data connection and this is causing the problem.

Try accessing a few websites and once you’ve done that, let us know what happens and we can go from there with getting it sorted.

      Thanks,

      Dan.

how do I transfer photos from phone to sd card please

    • Dan Grose says:

Hi Neil, thanks for getting in touch.

Transferring your images should be easy once you get the hang of it. Just go to the My Files app, find the image(s) you want to transfer then tap the Settings button (bottom left). Here you should have the option to transfer them to your SD Card.

Give this a go and let us know how you get on, and if you need more help just give us a shout.

      Cheers,

      Dan.

How can you delete the message logs on the Samsung s3 mini? I can delete the message but not the logs that show what # that you text to or received the text from.

    • Dan Nixon says:

      Hi there

To delete all message data head into Settings and then Application Manager. From there swipe across to all and select Messaging. Simply tap Clear Data and then OK and all of your message data will be removed. Please note that all message data will be deleted, not only selected ones.

      Thanks

I have an S3 mini, Can an alarm be set and the phone turned off and it will still go off?

    • Dan Nixon says:

      Hi Patrick

Unfortunately there is no way of setting the alarm to switch your phone on after it has been switched off.

If you are looking to save battery power when having downtime it might be worth considering switching on Power Saving mode. This can be done by heading into Settings>My Device>Power Saving Mode.

      Thanks

How can I transfer my contacts from a blackberry 9800 to Samsung mini S3

    • Dan Nixon says:

      Hi Derek

Thanks for getting in touch. The easiest way to transfer contacts from your BlackBerry to a Samsung device is by using the Samsung Kies software on your desktop PC. Just search for Samsung Kies in Google and follow the instructions.

      Thanks

How to open an attachment when it says starting download but doesn’t really download.

    • Dan Nixon says:

      Hi there

Email attachments may not download if you do not have a data signal or the attachment is very large. It is best to try again over a Wi-Fi connection.

      Thanks

    • Dan Nixon says:

  38. Christine says:

Please how do I transfer photos from my Gallery onto my computer

    • Dan Grose says:

      Hi Christine,

To transfer your images, just connect your handset to a computer and wait for it to register that it’s there. You should have a file pop up, so just select Folders. Then look for a folder called DCIM (which is your camera one) and open that.

Now you should see the thumbnails of your images, so just select them all and drag and drop them onto your desktop. This shouldn’t take long, and then you’ll be able to view them just by double clicking.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

      Thanks,

      Dan.

Cant find how to import Outlook contacts

    • Dan Nixon says:

      Hi Dennis

Thanks for getting in touch, apologies for the delay. Right, the easiest way to do this is via a Gmail account. Simply export your contacts as a CSV from Outlook (under File>Import>Export To A File) and then import them into your Google account on your computer. From here sync your Google account with your device and, hey presto, your contacts will be imported to your device.

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks

      Dan

S3 mini. mms photos unable to send or download unless mobile data switched on – is this the only way? Also unless mobile data is on I don’t even receive notification of the message aariving.

    • Dan Nixon says:

      Hi Helen

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. The answer to your question is yes – the only way to send MMS messages is with mobile data switched on. Just be aware that sending lots of them can result in increases in your bill. We would suggest emailing your images over Wi-Fi where possible.

      Thanks

      Dan
