How to charge your phone

To get your Samsung Galaxy Note 3 set up and fully charged:

  • Unravel USB cable.
  • Take the plug adaptor and pull the pin out until you feel a click.
  • Take the two pin connector and slide it into the space on the plug.
  • Take large end of the USB cable and insert into plug connector.
  • Take small end of the USB cable and insert into charging port on the bottom of the device.
  • Insert plug connector and plug into wall.
  • Switch on.

Alternatively you can charge your device using your laptop. To do this:

  • Take large end of the USB cable and slot it into USB port on laptop.
  • Take small end and insert into charging port on the bottom of the device.

How to set up your phone

To set up your phone straight from the box:

  • Press the Power button to switch on the device.
  • Select your chosen Language and tap Next.
  • Select a Wi-Fi network by tapping the network name or tap Next to skip this section.
  • Read the End user licence agreement and tick the box to agree to the terms.
  • Tap Yes to agree to Samsung logging error data or tap No thanks if you do not wish to participate. Then tap next.
  • Either Sign In to your Samsung Account if you have one, or choose Create New Account to create one, or tap Skip to skip this section.
  • If you have a Google Account tap Yes to sign in, or tap No if you do not have one.
  • Tap Get An Account to create a Google account or tap Not Now to skip this section.
  • Tick the boxes to turn on Google Location services and tap Next.
  • Input your first and last name and tap Done.
  • Either Sign In to your Dropbox Account if you have one, or choose Create New Dropbox Account to create one, or tap Skip to skip this section.
  • Check the device name is suitable and then tap Finish.

Software

What’s the latest software available for my phone?

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 runs on Android Jelly Bean and this is currently the most recent version available.

How to update your phone’s software

  • Ensure that the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
  • Press the Home button and swipe across the screen to unlock.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen to go to the Apps menu.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap About Device.
  • Tap Software Update.
  • Tap Update to check for updates.
  • If one is available, read the terms and conditions and tick the box to accept if you agree.
  • Tick the Auto update box to let the device automatically check for software updates.

How to perform a factory reset

  • Press the Power button and swipe across the screen to unlock.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen to go to the Apps menu.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap Backup and reset.
  • Tap Factory data reset.
  • Tap Reset device.
  • Tap Erase everything.

How to download an app

  • Press the Home button and swipe across the screen to unlock.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen.
  • Tap the Play Store icon.
  • Search for a specific app by tapping the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner of the screen.
  • Tap on the app you want to install.
  • Tap Install.
  • Confirm by tapping Accept and Download.

How to delete an app

  • Press the Home button and swipe across the screen to unlock.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen.
  • Tap the Settings icon.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap Applications Manager.
  • Select the app you wish to uninstall.
  • Tap uninstall.
  • Tap OK to confirm.

How to set up Wi-Fi

  • Press the Home button and swipe across the screen to unlock.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen.
  • Tap the Settings icon.
  • Tap Connections.
  • Move the Wi-Fi slider to the on position.
  • Tap Wi-Fi.
  • Select the network you wish to connect to.
  • Enter any required passwords and tap OK.

How to set up a Wi-Fi Hotspot

  • Press the Home button and swipe across the screen to unlock.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen.
  • Tap the Settings icon.
  • Tap Connections.
  • Tap on Tethering and Portable Hotspot.
  • Move the Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot slider to the on position.
  • Tap OK to confirm.
  • Tap Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot to access settings.
  • Tap Configure at the bottom right of the screen.
  • Change your Device Name or Security Settings if you so wish.
  • Tap Save.

How to take a picture or video on your phone

  • Press the Home button and swipe across the screen to unlock.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen.
  • Tap Camera.
  • Compose your shot.
  • Tap the shutter button located at the bottom of the screen to capture your image or tap the camera icon to capture video.
  • To stop recording, tap the red button.
