Sony could have a monster smartphone in the works after leaked images and specifications pointed to a 20 megapixel camera.
Brazilian site TechTudo broke the news with a photo of the white device, dubbed the Sony Xperia i1, as well as stating details that include an estimated 5.4-inch display alongside the behemoth of a camera.
Should the reports be true we will likely see Sony’s device go head-to-head with Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Zoom and the purported Nokia Lumia 1020, something that will make the camera-led smartphone category a very exciting prospect.
With its 10x optical zoom the Samsung device, launched a few weeks back amongst a slew of other Galaxy devices, offers a real blend of camera and smartphone, whilst Nokia’s speculated 41 megapixel-toting handset will corner the market in pixel counts.
With this in mind the Xperia i1 may have to rely on a 1/1.6-inch sensor to make headway, something that was rumoured a few weeks back by tech blog Android Beat. This has yet to be confirmed, but would make the handset a formidable prospect.
Sony has had a recent flurry of activity in the smartphone world after unveiling the gigantic Xperia Z Ultra earlier this week. Throw in the Xperia Tablet Z and rumoured Xperia Z Mini, and it could be a busy few months for the Japanese company.
