No ‘Nexus’ Ascend P6 Planned, Says Huawei
Company has faith in Emotion UI
Nexus handsets may be the order of the day but it seems not everyone is playing ball, with Richard Yu, chairman of Huawei, declaring the company has no plans to release such a version of its handsets.
Speaking at yesterday’s launch of the Huawei Ascend P6 in London, Yu stated that the Chinese firm had no intention of releasing an unskinned variant of its new flagship, believing that users would actually prefer the stock Emotion UI.
Having made “hundreds of improvements” to the overlay Yu commented that it would be better at dealing with a user’s “emotions”, something that is no doubt reflected in the name.
Nexus variants of leading handsets have been in demand since Samsung’s Galaxy S4 flagship got the pure Google treatment at this year’s I/O conference. With many proclaiming surprise at the move, the firm was swiftly followed by HTC with Sony rumoured to be next.
With HTC also strenuously denying the possibility of an unskinned HTC One, it remains to be seen whether Huawei will follow through on its claims.
Its Emotion UI will be one of the main focal points on the Ascend P6, with its heavily customised icons and unique features clearly a large part of a wider experience the company is trying to create. Having launched it last year, the unwillingness to leave it out is understandable.
